About Me

Hey there—I’m Nate. I’m a middle-aged guy with salt and pepper hair, a frugal streak, and an addiction to stories, whether I’m living them, writing them, or retelling them with too much detail over diner coffee.

Born and raised in a small town in upstate New York, I’ve since relocated to North Carolina, where I live with my wife Jamie and our wild, wonderful, blended family of five kids. Life here is loud, unpredictable, and full of heart—and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

I’ve spent most of my life in the auto body collision industry, where I’ve seen firsthand what nature, people, and bad parking decisions can do to cars. These days, I’m training as a catastrophe insurance adjuster, which means I’ll soon be chasing storms across the country—assessing damage, hunting for decent coffee, and trying to remember which airport lot I left my truck in. (Don’t laugh. The East and West daily lots at Charlotte Douglas are a cruel optical illusion. Also, they were doing construction.)

Where the Hail Am I? is my way of sharing the chaos, beauty, and offbeat characters I meet along the way—from hail-pummeled minivans in a Texas Walmart lot to small-town shops still held together with duct tape and dignity. It’s about the road, the work, the weather, and the weirdness that comes with it all.

I try to keep things honest, a little funny, and grounded in the real-life grit of what I do. If you like storm stories, road tales, shop talk, or just want to know what it’s like to live out of a suitcase filled with granola bars, receipts, and those weird little hotel pens—then you’re in the right place.

When I’m not on the job, I’m busy being a dad, a husband, and an involuntary sponsor of Jamie’s ongoing animal rescue habit. We’re talking dumpster cats, squirrels, limping strays, and occasionally something with feathers that probably shouldn’t be indoors. I’ve learned to roll with it.

Frugal by nature, funny by survival, and always looking for meaning in the mess—I hope you’ll come along for the ride.
